Pete Hawk: Bio

I was professionally trained in '86 in the art of recording engineering and have been actively producing for several years now.

At around the age of 5, my family realized I had an interest in music. I gravitated towards the piano and realized that I could play by ear. I would hear music from the radio or TV, and found I could pick out the correct notes and play what I heard. I took piano lessons for several years but found I had more fun learning things on my own. I felt taking lessons was painfully boring to me.
Gary Numan's hit "Cars" came out and my interest in electronic music came into being.

By the age of 13 or so I started experimenting with my Mom's classical guitar which was usually propped in a corner somewhere. Again, my ability to quickly learn was apparent and I started teaching myself chords. Then I got into "The Police" and my brain zoned in on Sting's bass playing, especially on their "Ghost in the Machine" album. I learned as much as I could.

I then started listening to Rush and was blown away by Geddy Lee's talent on the bass, keyboards, and his amazing voice. I ended up moving to Los Angeles after graduating from "The Recording Workshop" in southern Ohio, to pursue music. On the flight from New York to L.A. I met the son of a famous music producer. After chatting a while we exchanged info and the next day I was calling a band he introduced me to who needed a bassist. I tried out and was accepted.

After a year of playing with the group "Active Habit" I ended up returning to Ohio with the intent on finishing college (I had two years under my belt). After a year of working for Micro Center in Columbus, OH, I joined the USAF and ended up serving for an entire career. I held several jobs, from a C-5 Galaxy crew chief and Flight Engineer, to a Senior M.O.C. Controller, and finally, a Senior Command Post Controller at Nellis AFB, NV - the home of the USAF Thunderbirds. I really enjoyed my time with the service and got to see many parts of the world.

Over the years I've owned several keyboards, lead and bass guitars, and recording equipment. Now I'm a producer / recording engineer and I work in my own studio full time, recording my own music, audio books for authors, and more. In August 2008 I married for the second time and now I couldn't be happier.

If you are an author or know someone who would like to have a new source of income, I can produce your work in an audio book format, get it on i-Tunes and other similar digital music sites. I'm happy to say that I'm able to add original music as well. Please feel free to contact me at pete@petehawk.com.
